Ed Sheeran v Marvin Gaye

Here we go again. Another songwriter/performer being sued for breach of copyright.

Ed Sheeran sued over claims he’s ripped off a Marvin Gaye song.

Ed Sheeran’s is being sued in an American court of claims that “Thinking Out Loud” rips off a Marvin Gaye song, “Lets Get it On“.

It is claimed that the ed Sheeran song copies key parts of the Lets Get it On track

The relatives for Marvin Gaye are asking for a jury to decide if they are owed damages.

The court papers claim in part “The Defendants copied the heart of Let’s and repeated it continuously throughout Thinking” and that “The melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions of Thinking are substantially and/or strikingly similar to the drum composition of Let’s“.

At time of writing this post there has not yet been a response from Ed Sheeran or his management.

On a side-note Ed Sherran is currently being sued for $20m USD over the song Photograph, which two US musicians allege that copies of their song Amazing.
